Hashmi wants April 9 tragedy probe

KARACHI: A central leader of PML-N, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, has said the suspension and arrest of 60 judges in Pakistan finds no example in the history of Pakistan and vowed that they would be restored as per Murree Declaration. Addressing a crowded press conference at Karachi Press Club Friday, Hashmi said injustice was meted out to those who were to dispense justice. He declared that he fully subscribes to the lawyer''s 30 days'' timeframe for the restoration of suspended judges and said that now six days are left by which the judges are to be restored. He was of the view that judges can be restored through an executive order. The PML Leader apprehended that if the judiciary is not restored, there will be no political and economic stability in the country. "We consider the independence of Judiciary as most imperative for the country", he asserted. He urged the MQM to lend its support for the restoration of suspended judges as well in doing away with the article 58(B). Javed Hashmi referred to May 12 and April 9 bloody violence in Karachi and said these incidents would be investigated through the judiciary. He said the violence victims of Tahir Plaza had no political affiliations. He asked MQM to accept inquiries into May 12 and April 9 violent incidents. "We want MQM to join the national mainstream", he told a questioner. Javed Hashmi also appealed to the Prime Minister and the Sindh Chief Minister that those found responsible for Tahir Plaza tragedy should be awarded stringent punishment.
